A new holiday (now in its second year), founded by public relations professional Tracy Tilson, entices shoppers to spend their gift cards while encouraging retailers and restaurants to offer discounts and freebies to those who do. National Use Your Gift Card Day debuted on Jan. 18, 2020, and takes place every year on the third Saturday of January. This year, that date falls on Jan. 16.
